Lisbon Property Buyer is an independent buyer advisory focused on helping expat clients navigate the Lisbon and Cascais property markets with clarity, structure, and confidence.
We represent the buyer’s interests exclusively, providing structured advice, local insight, and experienced guidance at every stage of the property purchasing process.
Over time, we have seen that many capable buyers struggle not because of lack of intent, but because the Portuguese market offers little structure or representation on the buyer side.
Our focus is on representing buyers calmly and objectively, applying local knowledge and independent judgement to help clients make informed decisions in a market that can otherwise be complex and opaque.
With decades of experience across property and finance — and our own experience buying in Portugal — we help international buyers approach the Lisbon and Cascais markets with confidence and perspective.

Director
Joe has worked in financial services and the property industry since 1997. In 2002, he established his own company in Ireland, which he grew over the following 17 years to serve more than 1,000 clients, invested in residential and commercial property in Ireland and the UK.
His company also acted as Property Fund Manager for institutional clients including Canada Life and Irish Life. Joe sold the business in 2019.

Dee is a qualified Financial Advisor and a Business and Languages graduate. She has worked in the property and financial services industry since 2000 and alongside Joe since 2005, becoming Co-Director in 2009.

Our Story
We’re Joe and Dee. We moved from Ireland to Portugal at the beginning of 2022, following more than 20 years working in property and financial services in Ireland and the UK, where our business was regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
During that time, we worked with over 1,000 clients on property transactions with a combined value well in excess of €750 million. High standards, clear advice, and professional accountability were not optional — they were simply expected.
In 2019, we sold our company with plans to take a year off before starting something new back in Ireland. Like many plans at the time, Covid changed everything and gave us the opportunity to rethink what we wanted next.
As restrictions eased in 2021, we spent time in Lisbon exploring the idea of relocating. While we knew Portugal well from years of holidays in the Algarve, Lisbon offered the balance of lifestyle, culture, and opportunity we were looking for — particularly with a young child.
We made the move permanently in early 2022. Our son enrolled in an international school, we settled initially in Monte Estoril, and Portugal very quickly began to feel like home.
After subsequently buying our own home in Estoril, we went on to buy and sell several properties across Cascais and Lisbon. Through this process, we dealt extensively with estate agents, lawyers, notaries, banks, surveyors, and tradespeople. In our experience, only a small minority were operating at the level of service, efficiency, and professionalism we had previously been accustomed to.
During this period, we were very much enjoying life without work, which gave us time for friends, family, hobbies, and sport. Eventually, however, all that activity caught up with Joe when he badly damaged his knee playing padel. With more time on our hands, business ideas naturally began to resurface.
Staying close to what we knew best made sense. Combining our experience running a regulated property and financial services business with our own personal experiences buying and selling property in Cascais and Lisbon provided the foundation for a business focused on helping expats buy property — delivering the level of service, guidance, and professionalism we would want ourselves.
We had no desire to create a high-volume or “conveyor belt” operation. Instead, we deliberately limit how much work we take on and how many clients we represent at any one time. This allows us to remain personally involved from start to finish, provide thoughtful and unhurried advice, while maintaining the balanced Portuguese lifestyle that attracted us here in the first place.
Our aim is to help expats source and purchase property in the Lisbon and Cascais areas, saving valuable time and avoiding unnecessary stress by guiding them through every stage of the buying process — from initial search through to completion.
